Special ordered all the material ($3500) for a wood laminate floor from Home Depot to be installed throughout our duplex. Was going to install it myself as I do all my own construction, but for the price and my time I agreed with HD to have it installed.

Advised that Romanoff out of Medford, Oregon would be installing it and given a Ph number to call them. Was told by the representative once the product arrived they would set up an install date but not until the material was on site. About 10 days later all the flooring was in but Romanoff was weeks out for install. This was in July of 2016.

We had to keep the place vacant so they could do the install. The sent one guy out who told me he was a tile layer. The guy had an array of pretty *** tools and started using my saw and a few other things. I didn't mind just because the cuts looked better.

Next the guy didn't put down any moisture barrier even though there were lots of rolls of it stacked with the material. As I checked on the guy I could see he wasn't using any spacers between the wall and the end of the flooring. As he continued I observed the installer to be setting the long parallel planks tight up to the cabinets that separated two rooms. I saw that he did put moisture barrier down in each bedroom but instead of thresholds in the doorways he just did a continuous run up tight against the door frames.

I also noticed the flooring crackled as you walked on it and there were voids under the flooring so when you stepped on that area the floor would bow down. I paid extra to have them level the floor. So as time went by my renter let me know that the flooring in front of the bedrooms was starting to pop up. It wasn't just popping up it was buckled up about 3 inches.

I contacted Home Depot who immediately called Romanoff. They sent out their top installer who looked at what was going on. So next Sprig Sykes (the manager) called to talk to me and said they needed to pull up a little flooring to see what was going on. Right from the start they tried to put the blame on me by saying they thought the buckling was from too much moisture in the dwelling.

I pulled up my copy of the initial inspection from a company that Home Depot sent out to take moisture readings and measure the building for the sq. footage. In that report it made reference that we had high moisture reading and prior to installing the installer needed to do further testing to determine if they could install wood laminate. Their installer never tested for moisture nor used moisture barrier through most of the house.

When the top installer showed up he went to different parts of the house and pulled up flooring only to find out for himself there was no moisture barrier and that where the planks touched the cabinets and one interior wall the edges were moldy. Again they told me I must have a leak in the house and I showed them the wall in question was an interior with no plumbing in it and a closet backing it with no staining. They contacted the manufacture who sent out an inspector who laid blame on the installer. OK this was now June 2017.

They scheduled a time to pull up the old floor and lay it down again and replace the moldy boards and buckled boards. I called the Spring Sykes and suggested they order the replacement materials as it is not a stock item and takes 10 days to get here. A few weeks later the guys show up and start pulling up planks destroying some saving some but they didn't bring any material with them. The installer said they would run over to Home Depot and just pick some up.

They check at every HD within a half days drive only to find out it was special order just like I told Ms. Sykes. So the guys laid down the flooring they salvaged and we came up one whole room short. They ordered the material and we had to wait.

Now we still couldn't rent the place out as one bedroom didn't have flooring and the trim wasn't installed. The material showed up in about a week and I called Romanoff to get the installers over. Now we're into Sept. 2017.

They didn't get the installer here until Nov. 2017. Over the next couple of months things were still not right as you walked on the floor it was crackled under your feet unless you bumped the heat up to about 75. Now I noticed that when they did the second install they bent up corners on a lot of the planks and we got a separation of about 1/8 inch between two planks in our hallway and the bedroom was bouncy again.

I went to the Manager (Tim) at Home Depot Crescent City and told him all the problems I was having with Romanoff even though HD had talked to them. Tim and Spring Sykes made an appointment with me to look at the flooring which we did. When Tim saw the gap in the flooring his answer to that was for me to fill it in with caulking. My answer was just you've got to be kidding me.

Then they wanted to know what they should do to make it right. I told them since the stuff they put in doesn't seem to do what we bought it to do that maybe they should put something else in that wasn't so problematic. By now we had a $3500 floor that was having problems and we were out a years worth of rent since no one could live there while they had it tore up and we couldn't put anyone in there if we were going to be pulling it up. They both left telling me they were going to try and work something out between Romanoff and Home Depot and maybe split the cost to replace our flooring.

Now another year has gone by and every time I ran into Tim at Home Depot he would tell me that he was working on it with his district manager. When he sees me now he does an about face and *** avoiding me at all cost and Romanoff has never tried to contact me again.
